NASS leadership: House of Reps won't be a rubberstammp Assembly under Abass, says Ibrahim

Dr Mohammed Ibrahim who is the head of the 100% focus for Nigeria says the House of Representatives would not be a rubberstammp legislative House under the leadership of Dr Tajudeen Abass.

This is as the Arewa women for Tinubu/Shettima movement threw their weights behind the candidature of Abass as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Ibrahim who spoke to reporters in Abuja argued that Abass has the wherewithal to oversee the affairs of the lower legislative chamber of elected into office.

"He has been in the House for the past 12 years. He is a simple and gentle man. He is a teacher and an intellectual and we know for sure that he won't dance to the tune of the executive arm if what they want him to do would not serve the best interest of Nigerians, " he said.

Hajia Saadatu Garba Dogonbauchi who spoke on behalf of the women movement described Abbas as a team builder who will make a big difference in the discharge of his duties and responsibilities as the Speaker.

She added: "We believe that Hon. Tajudeen is the most suitable candidate for the position based on his profile, excellent track records, work experiences, academic qualifications, contributions at the National Assembly, bills presented and passed for implementation, support to the party, and loyalty to leadership Millions of Nigerians have also spoken about this based on a popular choice.

"Our APC leaders and Mr. President Bola Tinubu have given direction in this matter, and we urge the elected members of the new assembly, party loyalists, and supporters to endorse and buy into the APC leadership direction for the party to move on without delay.

"This will enable lawmakers to provide the much-needed quality policies and oversight function in an innovative way.

"We, the Arewa Women Movement and other stakeholders, will continue to support this decision on the right direction to *achieve our party's agenda at all levels* while showing our loyalty to our leaders in mobilizing the much-needed support round the clock to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

"We strongly urge members of the elected 10th National Assembly, governors, senators, party officials and members, and other stakeholders to please support the emergence of Hon. Tajudeen from the North West as the speaker.* Hon.

"We appeal to everyone to lend their support for the emergence of Hon. Tajudeen from the North West as the preferable choice for the 10th National Assembly in the interest of moving legislative activities forward."
